Spencer Lee Whitehorn was born in Jackson, Tennessee, on July 26, 1953, to the union of Robert and Rebecca Whitehorn. He was the sixth of nine siblings. Spencer spent many of his formative years in Jackson with his grandmother, Hanna Whitehorn, before rejoining his immediate family in Saint Louis, in the mid-1960s. There, he lived in the Fountain Park neighborhood on Watson Avenue, where he was lovingly known as “SpeedDog” by neighbors and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Robert and Ms. Rebecca Whitehorn, as well as his two sisters, Zenordia Spencer and Martha Spencer, and his brother Eric “Donny” Jones.
He received his education in the St. Louis Public School System and later worked in the Research Department of Jewish Hospital where he remained for much of his early adulthood. In 2003, Spencer married Charlene Stanford, and together they raised three of her grandchildren: Brooke, Ella, and Lightning. Later in 2012, he moved in with his beloved Aunt Lou and Sarah Jenkins, where he resided until his passing.
On Saturday, July 26, 2025, Spencer left this earthly life to join our Heavenly Father in eternity. Spencer Lee Whitehorn leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Charlene Spencer; his children, Kelli Straughter, Danny Lieberman, and Beau Bowles; his siblings, Mary Banks, Flora Whitehorn, Roy Whitehorn, William “Ronnie” Jones, and Tony “Wade” Jones; and his grandchildren, Diamond Reece and Deron Strauther.
Spencer will be remembered for his fierce independence and his desire to live life on his own terms.
