Obituary

Ms. Early Mae Ward was born on April 18, 1940, in Memphis, Tennessee, to her loving mother, Mrs. Clemmie Jones. From a young age, Early Mae carried a strength within her that she maintained throughout her life.

She received her education in Saint Louis, Missouri, where she proudly graduated from Hadley Tech High School. After completing her schooling, she dedicated many years to working as a private-duty housekeeper. Her work ethic was unmatched. She served the families she worked for with kindness and remained dependable and committed to her role for many years.

Beyond her work, Early Mae was known as someone who stayed connected to others. She spent many days in long conversations, keeping up with family, friends, and the world around her. Early Mae left a lasting impression everywhere she went.

Early Mae raised her children in Saint Louis. Although life brought challenges, there were also moments of joy, childhood memories, holidays, and the random family gatherings that shaped the family in lasting ways. Her children carry those memories with them and honor the path she walked.

On November 8, 2025, at the age of 85, Early Mae peacefully transitioned at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children: her daughters, Regina (Gina) Ward and ShaJuan (Shanie) Ward; and her sons, Tianneye (Tee) Ward and Elondrea (Elon) Ward.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Mrs. Clemmie Jones; her brother, Michael Jones; her daughter, Tongo Ward; and her sister, Climmie Jones.

She is also survived by her brother, Carl Jones, along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Early Mae’s life touched her family in ways that will be carried forward for years to come. The moments shared, the lessons learned, and the memories held close will continue to live in the hearts of those who loved her. She will be remembered and missed.

"Help us, God, to focus on that which enable us to keep going. Remind us that time will never erase the memories and that for a moment we're not alone as we sit here together. We give thanks for the times we had with our loved ones, both the ups and the downs of living life, but most of all we're grateful for love which is stronger than death. Help us to bear our sorrow without bitterness, to look forward slowly, one day at a time and to gain some comfort from those who can help us ease our pain...Be with us now as we encourage and support each other. Amen. "
