Mr. Carl
Toledo
September 16, 1957 – February 5, 2026
carl toledo was born on September 16, 1957, in Saint Louis, Missouri, to Lucas and Louise Toledo, who both preceded him in death.
Carl was educated in the Saint Louis Public Schools system and proudly graduated from Sumner High School in 1976. As a young man, Carl faced the challenges of mental illness, yet he refused to allow it to define or limit him. Through determination and resilience, he went on to earn his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Saint Louis University in 1982 - a remarkable accomplishment that reflected his strength, brilliance and determination.
A gifted and passionate artist, Carl created numerous painted canvases capturing the scenic beauty of Saint Louis. His artwork stands as a lasting testament to his creativity and deep appreciation for the city.
Most importantly, Carl gave his life to Christ and was a faithful member of Williams Temple and Bibleway Church of God in Christ. His faith remained an important foundation throughout his life.
Committed to social justice and community empowerment, Carl was one of the first members of ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now), a grassroots organization dedicated to advocating for low-income families and fighting against predatory subprime lending practices. His involvement reflected his compassion and desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
On February 5, 2026, Carl answered the Master’s call and entered into eternal rest. Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice knowing that he has exchanged earthly struggles for heavenly peace. Carl leaves to cherish his precious memory his loving sisters: Diana (Fred), Darlene (Kennis), Agnes Denise (Phillip), and Donna; along with a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will forever remember his artistic spirit, resilience, and heart for his community.
-Among the many signs of a lively faith and hope we have in eternal life, one of the surest is not being overly sad at the death of those whom we dearly love in our Lord.
