Andrew Townsend III was born on May 15, 1976, in Saint Louis, Missouri, at Barnes Hospital to the proud parents Andrew Townsend Jr. and Laura M. Little. He was the middle child, with an older brother and a younger sister.
His father and beloved sister/friend, Andrea “Tricey” Latrice Townsend, preceded him in death.
Andrew was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Anemia and spent a great deal of time in and out of hospitals well into adulthood. However, Andy took it in stride, loving and living his life to the fullest. He considered himself a “warrior,” facing this fight with strength and resilience, trusting the process along the way.
Andrew was a simple, laid-back person and a young man of few words. Andy, as his family called him, often seemed quite serious and was somewhat of a loner. Some of his friends called him “Quiet Storm.” But to those who got to know him, he had plenty to say and could be humorous in his own way. He started a podcast to voice his opinions on world issues, Black culture, and to draw attention to life’s injustices.
On a lighter note, he enjoyed playing video games and listening to music. He deeply loved and respected his late grandfather, cherishing the time they spent together and the wisdom he gained from him. Andy paid great attention to his wardrobe and appearance—always well-groomed, with his outfits color-coordinated and finished with a pair of sneakers and a cap from his collection.
Andrew valued family relationships. He was the father of two sons, Ahmad and Demetrius, and he embraced fatherhood completely. He was intentional about being present in their lives and worked hard to fulfill his responsibilities to them—emotionally and physically—as life permitted.
Andy and his mother, Laura, shared a very close bond, and he was deeply protective of her. Though his sister “Tricey” had preceded him in death, he carried her in his heart always. He made sure she was not forgotten, often mentioning her and honoring her birthday each year on social media.
He was quick to acknowledge the love, appreciation, and eternal gratitude he felt for his brother, Marlon, who stepped up and stood by him in his time of need.
Andy was a caring son, a wonderful brother, a great uncle, a fun cousin, a respectful nephew, a loyal friend, and a gift to all who knew him.
Andrew Townsend III fought a good fight. He finished his course and, on June 12, 2025, while in the care of the Chestnut Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility, he departed this life keeping his faith.
He leaves to cherish his memory: two sons, Ahmad and Demetrius Townsend; his loving mother, Laura M. Little; his devoted and supportive brother, Marlon T. Little; two nieces, Aundryana L. Washington and Zaniyah Naomi Little; one nephew, Marlon T. Little Jr.; one great-niece, Zuri “Zu-Zu” Washington; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He will be greatly missed.
